It's so nice to move a long-forgotten quilt top onto the "finished" pile. The whole reason I got a longarm machine in the first place was to put a dent in the teetering stack of unfinished pieced tops that I had amassed over about 15 years. So this little table topper was just the right size to try out a new panto quilting pattern: Sprung by Jodi Beamish.
Another reward for my rather minimal effort was that the whole quilt top was made from scraps, inspired by this exquisite piece of patriotic maritime fabric from Hoffman. I just started building the quilt around that square. This arrangement of patchwork blocks is commonly known as a Medallion setting.
But I love using fabric I already have because it is no new expense. Finishing it also allowed me to use up leftover binding strips from another project called Americana Rose by Cindi Walker. That quilt was made last year for a dear friend.
I couldn't bring myself to throw away the extra binding (this will come as no surprise to my friends and family!) so I stashed strips in case they could be used later in another red, white and blue project. And they could. The new quilt is wrapped and ready to give to my sister-in-law, who was born on the 4th of July.
Oh, that is so nice! The pattern is really amazing and I find it matching to my kitchen!
